Solving Bird Problems

If you are lucky enough to have a cherry tree in your garden, I'm sure I don't need to tell you how much you can enjoy it. Eating delicious cherries falling from your tree is a rewarding experience in itself. It's also nice to look out the back window and see a gorgeous, majestic cherry tree. Most people are impressed that you have a cherry tree because non-gardeners often think of cherries as some kind of exotic plant.

However, along with the happiness that a cherry tree can bring, there are also a lot of troubles. They seem to attract more unwanted creatures than any other plant in the world. It seems that almost every day there is a new type of epidemic around, trying to take a piece of the delicious fruit of the tree. I can't say I blame them, but if they want to eat delicious fruit, they should grow their own trees.

One of the major and ongoing problems that most people face is that birds eat fruits from trees. It may seem almost impossible to get rid of this pest. After all, they can approach from any angle and quickly make off with the cherry. Or they can sit unnoticed on branches and eat all day. The bird certainly has versatility. These little guys are very difficult to catch or push. But there are several ways to keep birds away from your home.

The most common way to scare away birds is to place a plastic owl near your house. If you find an animal that usually eats birds and buy the plastic version, real birds will usually be instinctive enough to avoid it. They could be snakes, owls, hawks, or scarecrows (okay, maybe they don't usually eat birds. But they scare birds away for some reason). These can often be purchased at your local garden center. If you want a different version or a more realistic representation, you're sure to find something that will suit you if you look online.

If you purchase some kind of plastic animal, it will usually solve your bird problem for a while. But some birds are really brave (or really stupid) and continue to feed from your tree. Almost any reflective surface or noisy object will prevent birds from getting too close. Personally, I like to use reflective tape designed to deter birds. You can buy it at any garden store. I often use this with a variety of bells to maximize the scare. If you have a plastic pet with reflective objects and noisy objects, almost all birds will be too scared to approach.

Even though flying creatures get more fruit than their fair share, you should still consider leaving them a special tree. Although they may sometimes seem like pests, birds may be just the thing to bring life to your garden. If you're used to birds and suddenly they're spooked, you'll feel like there's something missing in your garden. Something you truly love deep down.
